Case Study: Patient Info: Name: sana Age: 45 years old Gender: Female Occupation: Accountant Medical Condition/Complaint or Diagnosis: Sana was admitted to the hospital due to severe dehydration and hypovolemic shock after suffering from severe vomiting and diarrhea for several days. Medical and Family History: Sana has a history of high blood pressure and is currently taking medications to manage it. She also has a family history of heart disease and stroke.
Laboratory and Examination Results: Upon admission, Sana’s blood pressure was extremely low, and her heart rate was high. Laboratory tests showed that her blood sodium levels were low, indicating dehydration. Her electrolyte levels were also abnormal, indicating imbalances caused by fluid loss. An ultrasound showed no abnormalities in her abdomen. Medical Treatment Needed: Sana was immediately given intravenous fluids to rehydrate her and correct the imbalances in her electrolyte levels. She was started on a hetastarch IV fluid to increase her blood volume and improve her blood pressure. Hetastarch is a type of colloid solution that is used to increase blood volume in patients with hypovolemia.
Prognosis: Sana responded well to the hetastarch IV fluid and other treatments, and her vital signs stabilized. She was kept in the hospital for a few days for observation and further treatment, including antibiotics to treat any underlying infection. She was eventually discharged and advised to take steps to prevent dehydration, such as drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding foods that can irritate her stomach. With proper management, her prognosis is good. Case Study For A Patient Discussion Paper
